Our Story

I grew up watching my mother’s hands.

In our home in Suzhou, my mother sat by the window each afternoon, a frame of silk stretched on her lap. She would split a single silk thread — finer than a hair — into halves, quarters, eighths, until she held something almost invisible. Then one stitch. Then another. For hours, in silence.

I learned to embroider before I learned to write. Later I understood she wasn’t just making pictures. She was telling stories — a flower for good fortune, a fish for abundance, a face she loved.

Suzhou embroidery has been practiced here for more than 2,500 years. It is the most celebrated of China’s Four Great Embroideries and a national intangible cultural heritage, famous for double-sided embroidery — where no knot is ever visible and neither side can be called “the back.”

But I kept finding these stories behind glass. In museums and hotel lobbies, with signs that said do not touch. Always something to admire, never something to live with. And the women who made them — my mother among them — were growing older.

So I started ONE, on a simple conviction: the most beautiful art in the world belongs in your everyday life — not behind glass.

ONE means one thread — the single silk thread every piece begins with.
ONE means one stitch at a time — the only pace this craft can, or should, be made.
And ONE means the one you love.

From that one thread, we make two kinds of stories.

ONE Wear — a craft you can put on.
Hand-embroidered earrings, necklaces, and small adornments. We won’t tell you every earring is one of a kind — it isn’t, and it doesn’t have to be. What it shares is rarer: real hands, real silk, a 2,500-year-old craft that almost disappeared. Wear one, and it becomes part of your story.

ONE Keep — a portrait of the one you love.
Send us the photos you would like to customize — they can be your pets, family members, or any other subjects you prefer. Please also include your desired dimensions, and we’ll stitch their likeness in silk, thread by thread, over weeks. This one we promise you: it is the only one in the world — made for the one in yours.

Nothing we sell is printed or machine-made. We don’t inflate our work with words it can’t keep. We simply carry a living craft out of the glass case and into your morning, your neckline, your home.

This is what I was raised to believe:

One thread, in one patient pair of hands, can hold an entire story.

Every piece of Suzhou embroidery is a story. Let us help you tell yours.

That’s ONE.
